My 5 Annotations

"GIdeon vs. Wainwright Case." Http://www.enotes.com/supreme-court-drama/gideon-v-wainwright. 28 Oct. 2009 .
In taking his case to the United States Supreme Court, Clarence Gideon brought about an historic change in the way American criminal trials are conducted.

The Court recognized that criminal cases can be very complicated. The Court noted that the government hires lawyers to prosecute cases, and that people who can afford to do so hire the best lawyers they can to defend themselves, so having a lawyer in court must be a necessity, not a luxury.

Gideons case showed that a request of an attorney cannot be reject nor denied. it also shows the newer generations why they should not depend on others because people take advantage only because of your possition.

When Clarence Earl Gideon was arrested for a crime and was not able to afford legal representation, the issue at hand was whether a person without economic resources could defend themselves and win. This video segment explores the landmark case Gideon v. Wainwright and how it ensured that all Americans, regardless of their economic background, received legal representation in a criminal case.

Gideon v. Wainwright made an enormous contribution to the so-called "due process revolution" going on in the Court led by Chief Justice Warren. Because of the ruling in this case, all indigent felony defendants--like many others charged with misdemeanors--have a right to court-appointed attorneys.

Political Influence

The Gideon vs Florida case influences the political part because is supports the 6th ammendment. Which is having the right to a lawyer /attorney. The case stated that the court told Gideon he couldn't have a lawyer. When Gideon was placed in jail, he studied the 6th ammendment. and he learned that he wasn't suposed in jail, but he couldn't challenge his case until he completed his 5 years in jail. Thats what he did! When he was released, he challenged his case and won.

Social Influence

The innovation is important to society because it is important for society to know what their rights are and why we need to stick by them. Because if you don't know your rights, people can and will attempt to take advantage of you. For example, in the case Gideon vs Florida, the court took advantage of gideon by putting him ini jail. when his rights were not being respected. He served 5 whole years in jail because of the courts foolishness. It also teaches younger generations to do research on their behalf. because it teaches them values of life such as respect, and also how to take care of yourself. Because you can always depend on someone else to handle your business.
Annotation #1;
"About The Gideon vs. Florida Case." This case was put in court June 3, 1961. It was about a man who was accused of robbing a pool house in florida, with no evidence of robbery. He was told that he couldnt have a lawyer. Gideon didnt know that was violating the 6th ammendment. Gideon was jailed for 5 years. while he was in jail, he studied the 6th ammendment. When he was free, he went to court again, to state his case. Gideon then, won his case.

This innovation shows how important the 6th ammendment is and that the ammendments are an important part of American society. I learned that Anthony Lewis wrote a book about the case called Gideons Trumpet. I went to the library and took the book out;me and my NHD partner are both going to read the book, so we can both have all the details and facts about the case. I use legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com and economicexpert.com as my research sites;im working on finding some more really good ones. I have a few questions about the case that these sites dont answer, which is why im reading the book.

This innotation is a secondary source. Because it has a history of research,

NHD; Gideon vs. Florida

Gideon vs. Florida was a 1963 case. The judge told Gideon that he wasnt allowed to have a lawyer to better support his case. When Gideon lost his case, he was sentences to 5 years in jail. While he was in jail, he looked up the amendments, and figured out that his reading violated the 6th amendment. Which states everyone has the right to have a lawyer. Anthony Lewis wrote a book called Gideon's Trumpet. Which was about the case, the book was written to show people the importance of the 6th amendment. After this specific case, the 6th amendment was enforced even more. This case is important to our economy because it is important that all citizens have the right to have a lawyer/attorney. Because sometimes, it depends n if they win or lose the case. This case is an innovation in history because it proves the importance of the 6th amendment and All US citizens rights.
My topic for NHD is Clarence Gideon vs. Florida and the case id that Gideon was accused of breaking into a Florida pool house to rob it.At his hearing the judge said he wasnt allowed a to have a lawyer. He lost his case and was sentenced five years in jail and while doing time he read that he had the right to have a lawyer under the 6th amendment.

National history Day NHD

My topic for NHD is going to be on Fashion in Philadelphia. And how it has changed throughout the years. From 1940-2009. it has changed in many ways. From the wartime to the current days. the generations of fashion has changed so much since back then. First because of the people, and the money. Also because of time, and change in the world. For example, Back then there were a lot of wars and there really wasnt such thing as fashion; everyone basically wore the same type of clothing. But now, everyone has there own style. We all wear different colors, different materials, different brands. We also have clothing designers now, when back then, the woman of the household made most of all the clothes for the family.
Im doing research on the history of Philly fashion.

Our  Class Bill Of Rights:

1.) Freedom of speech
-We all should have the right to speak our minds and explain ourselves.
2.) Respect
-We should respect one another.
3.) Honesy
-We should be completly honest with eachother.

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Freedom of speech, is the most important to me because i usually have a different opinion then everyone else. I speak my mind all the time and i stand up for what i believe in and i dont think i should get in trouble for simply being myself. I have a different view point on many things than majority people have. I believe I should be  able to express my thoughts in feelings. Therefore, the first amendment  is the most important to me.

MY OWN BILL OF RIGHTS

My bill of  rights consist of drug usage and murder. I think drug usage should not be pressed on as hard as it is today. Also, i believe murder should not be looked upon as "a life for a life". I believe that is wrong.  Our laws have been severely change over the last 200 years, for example, enslavement was abolished. And woman, country wide were certified ti vote. I would not take away any amendments because people may then, abuse their rights.

Qualitative analysis of your type formula

 You are:
  • very expressed extravert
  • moderately expressed intuitive personality
  • slightly expressed thinking personality
  • moderately expressed judging personality
I mostly agree with what this website says about me and my personality. but there are some things that are not listed.
Personality is what makes us all different. We all like different things, and we all have some things in common but everything is rare. Personality can affect our decisions and choices in many ways. First, if you are truly a nice person and you find a 20 dollar bill on the ground in front of your teachers desk, would you take it? Or would you place it back on the desk? Personality has a lot to do with whichever you choose. Be careful, though. Sometimes making the wrong choice will change peoples opinion about you or change the way the feel about you!

Young Adults, Save Yourselves!

Unprotected sex is harming our environment. Children are growing up way to fast all around me. Spreading STD's are destroying our economy. This Problem can be solved by teenagers waiting to have sex. Parents and inspiring adults should speak to the younger people, to encourage them to be patient. STD's are no joke. They are very dangerous and many people have lost their lives to a STD. Having unprotected sex is like inviting a STD to come in and destroy your life for ever. Even if you do have unprotected sex, anything can happen. In conclusion, Young adults should wait to have sex, period. Adults should talk to the younger generation and convince them to wait.
